Spring/ Summer 2010 Hair Color Trends

PEROXIDE BLONDE
For those of you who are looking to take over the world with your blonde ambition this is the tone for you. Keep in mind this hair color is high maintenance, a root touch up every 4 to 5 weeks ladies. Your skin tone is a very important factor to consider when deciding if this hue is for you. It is not white, it has a slight yellow hue. If your skin tone has a red undertone then this color is not for you. Peroxide blonde compliments those with a violet undertone in your skin.

GOLDEN BLONDE
If Peroxide Blonde is not your color then express yourself with a beautiful golden blonde that looks very natural. The key to obtain this color is to not have any white/ platinum tones mixed into it. With this color, as long as your roots are well blended, it will look very natural. If your hair color is in the brown family then you may want to opt to having your locks single processed to a lighter color, then have highlights added in with a blind of golden tones to give you a very natural effect. This color looks good on almost all skin complexions.

RAVEN WARRIOR
It has been said that blondes have more fun, but Raven Warriors always get what they want. Blondes are not going out of style but they do have some fierce competition in this new decade that is among us. Let me bring to your attention the Red Bombshell, this is not copper red, this red is richly colored and very natural. For those of you with natural blonde hair you will need to make sure you choose a reputable salon where the stylist will understand that your hair will naturally pull a orange tone and they will need to take that into consideration when formulating your color formula. If you have naturally darker hair then your stylist may need to pre-lighten your hair to get you that perfect red bombshell tone. This hair color looks best on those with a porcelain skin tone.

MISCHIEVOUS BRUNETTES
What would we do without those mischievous brunettes? Brunettes have always been seen as sultry mysterious vixens and nothing has changed for this season except for the tone of brunette. Brunettes in the past decade have been very warm and glowing, for spring/ summer 2010 it is all about cool, icy shades of that ever classic hair color. Cool dark tones look best on those with an olive complexion.

BLACK
For the brave and the bold, black is back! Black hair was quite visible on the catwalk this season, especially short black hair. Black hair is not for everyone, it looks its best on those with olive to tan complexion.

The Groovy Granny Movement
For those of you who are looking to stay ahead of the trends, this is the color to consider. Shockingly, grey hair found its way on to the catwalk. You are probably thinking, WHAT? Well men have always been allowed to have grey hair, some men even look forward to going grey. Society has built a double standard around grey hair, men look more distinguished and women look like they are aging. In this new decade many woman are no longer fighting that horrible nightmare, their first grey hair, they are embracing it and some are enhancing it. This trend is becoming popular with young women, especially the townies and the hipsters in London and Paris. Keep in mind if you are not already grey, maintaining this color is as high maintenance as peroxide blonde, touch ups every 4 - 6 weeks. This color compliments those with porcelain and violet skin undertones. Consult a well qualified stylist for your exact tone of grey.

*** For those of you who love your natural color but would like to adjust the tone, you don't have to permanently change your hair color. Ask your stylist about a toner or a semi-perminant color that will fade out in 6 - 8 weeks. This will allow you to keep your natural color but enhance and adjust your natural tone for each season. This is a low maintenance, non dramatic, and cost efficient way of changing your look each season.

2010 Spring / Summer Hair Trends Directly From The Catwalk!

On the runways of Milan, Paris, London, and New York for Spring/ Summer 2010 the 1940s waves were the Cats Meow and the 1970 inspired texture was Awe Sooky Sooky. So get your note pads out, your big barrel curling irons heating up and the flat irons plugged in because I am going to break it all down so that you too can look like you just exited onto the catwalk.
1940s WAVES
This style was all the rage at Christian Dior's show. These waves are very firm but not curly, so make sure you are using at least a 2 inch curling iron. This style should be worn off center or on a side part, but never on a center part. A center part will create a triangular shape and that is not flattering for any face shape. Length should fall below the shoulders to achieve the full effect of this style.

1970s Inspired Texture
This style was really hot, especially on the runway of the Chloe show. Similar to that of the 1940s waves but almost bordering a bed head look. You can create this style with a 2 inch curling iron. Start curling the hair mid shaft and slowly work your way down leaving the ends out, allowing the ends to be frizzy. Then run a flat brush through your hair to break up the waves. Finish it off by applying a shine cream from mid shaft to the ends. This style is suitable for all parts; center, off center, and side. Remember this style should be worn messy as if you just got out of bed!

Smooth Straight Naturally Long Hair
Anna Sui also took us back to the 1970s with her version of the severely off center parted smooth hair, slightly different from that of the classic 70s style. Unlike our 1970s predecessors this modern version of straight hair is smooth with volume and bounce on the ends. You can achieve this look by first using a root lifter and drying the hair with your hands tossing your head upside down. Then with a large round brush, round brush your hair focusing on smoothing the ends. To create volume, use large velcro rollers applying two inch by two inch sections around each roller creating a mohawk over the full length of your part, allow them to set for at least 20 minutes. Next, with a flat iron, run the flat iron from the roots to the mid shaft of your hair, leaving a little body and bounce on your ends.

Slicked Gelled Hair
Roberto Cavilli and Gucci broke down the barriers of sexual orientation connotations. This look is very strong and not for the timid. You can have this style by strongly defining your part with a comb and wear it as far to the side that is suitable for your face. Style with men's styling gel or cream but no heavy waxes or pomades.

Milk Maid Braids are all the RAGE!
Alexander Wang took a hair style from the farm lands and turned it out on the runway. This style is is so easy and can go from day to evening without doing a thing. For you to achieve this style all you need to do is wash you hair, apply some styling product such as a styling foam to give your hair more texture, then power dry your hair with your fingers upside down. To Finish off, start by loosely braiding the hair slightly higher than mid shaft to the heavy side of your part allowing it to fall over your shoulder.
